HAS: Efficiently attenuating track vibrations

HAS at a glance

  • Effective noise and vibration attenuation
  • A cost-effective solution
  • Simplified installation, maintenance and replacement
  • Solution deployed and proven across the world

In urban areas where vibrations and noise caused by the wheel-rail interface are problematic, the High Attenuation Sleeper™ (HAS™) solution provides optimal and cost-effective mitigation.

Reducing impact in cities

The vibrations generated by train services can cause disturbances to sensitive urban sites such as hospitals, homes, historic sites, and entertainment venues. The HAS track system, a rail antivibration solution co-developed by Alstom and Sateba (Consolis Rail), effectively minimizes these disturbances while offering key advantages over traditional floating slab tracks.

Ease of installation

The HAS rail antivibration uses a monoblock concrete sleeper mounted on resilient pads within a rigid boot. This design allows installation with standard track-laying equipment at the same pace as conventional tracks, up to 4 times faster than cast-in situ floating slab systems, which require specialized labour and high quality work.

Cost-effective maintenance

Beyond faster installation, the HAS rail antivibration system is maintainable under revenue service on the opposite to floating slab solutions. Thanks to its easy access to the sleepers it allows quick overnight replacements, helping avoid daytime service interruptions and minimizing impact on operations.

World-class results

The attenuation delivered by HAS is equivalent to the floating slab track, all achieved at a lower cost. Small wonder that the UK government decided to adopt HAS for part of the emblematic Crossrail project, running beneath London city centre, which opened in 2018 as the Elizabeth Line.
